Shown here as a dry cow at 20 years of age, Wee Gaelic Ms. Fermoy became strongly represented in the pedigrees of many of our cattle, after we bought out the Circle H herd in 2003. Ms. Fermoy was a unique animal. She had surprising width and depth, coming from an era where such traits were normally only found in chondrodysplasia carriers. She passed this on to many of her descendants, and made an important contribution to the dual purpose functionality of the breed. Ms. Fermoy had a nice forward front udder attachment but this extra capacity made a teat weakness apparent, creating funnel teats on the front. We have noticed that care must be taken with this line to avoid funnel teats. Although we did not have an incidence of funnel teats in the Circle H bunch, Ms. Fermoy was quite far back in their pedigrees. We have , however , observed this udder weakness in other direct descendants of Ms. Fermoy. Another interesting point is she had notched ears, and a very slight brindle pattern to her coat, attesting to the presence of these traits in animals tracing back to the oldest Dexter importations.
